Description

Alzheimer’s dementia affects over 6 million people in the US today and is expected to double by the year 2050. This course will explain the different types of dementia and especially Alzheimer’s disease dementia and how it may affect the Chiropractic patient. This course will cover the following topics:

  • Dementia defined.
  • The different types of dementia and their characteristics.
  • The difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.
  • Alzheimer’s Disease characteristics, stages, and statistics.
  • Theories of Cognitive Decline: Amyloid Protein Theory, Tau Hypothesis, and Cholinergic Hypothesis and genetic link.
  • Pharmaceutical treatments used for Alzheimer’s Disease.
  • Nutritional treatments for Cognitive Decline including:
  • Lifestyle changes to decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

This course satisfies the Illinois Chiropractic continuing education mandated requirement.
