In this 2 hour course, Dr. Don DeFabio will contrast and review the application of active care for the lumbar spine in flexion, extension and neutral spine. In addition to learning the clinical indications for appropriate exercise selection, specific exercise progressions that the clinician can incorporate immediately with low tech solutions will be presented. Evidenced based flexion biased exercise principles for lumbar spinal stenosis will be presented. Finally, the three mechanisms of core stability will be presented as they relate to lumbar spine rehab. By the end of this course the clinician will: • Understand the biomechanics for lumbar spine in flexion, extension and neutral spine alignment. • Learn the exercise progressions for flexion and extension biased care. • Review the significance of neutral spine training. • Learn the rehab progression for lumbar spinal stenosis • Upon completion the clinician will be able to know who, when and which patients will respond best to flexion, extension or neutral spine exercises.
