Over the last several years there has been a growing body of research that looks at the relationship between diet and mental health. This connection is made possible by the interconnection between the gut and brain often referred to as the gut-brain axis (GBA). This two-way communication system explores the underlying relationship between the nervous system, immune system, endocrine system, and many other systems. This is made possible through the numerous chemical messengers often originating in the gut microbiota. These trillions of cells play a crucial role in digestion, hormone synthesis, cognition, immune system function and more. Central to this communication system is the vagus nerve, the 10th cranial nerve and the longest nerve in the body, stretching from the brainstem to the viscera. It is part of the autonomic nervous system sending 80% of the messages from the gut to the brain and back again. This webinar will give you much insight to the importance of the Vagus and techniques we can use to help improve its function in our patients!
